SWE GGS Virtual Holiday Party
Date: December 17, 2020 from 5 - 6 PM
Nine people attended this virtual holiday party. Over Zoom, we played a game of Kahoot! which is an online trivia game. Questions ranged from "when was SWE founded" to "how many counties are there in the bay area." After the trivia, we had a scavenger hunt. There were a list of items on a PowerPoint slide and all the participants had ten minutes to find these items around their house. Some items included "a holiday gift you received last year" and "something SWE branded".
Our next event is in January. Word has it that there will be another trivia at this event. ;)

Professional Panel with UCB SWE
Date: October 14, 2020 @ 7:00 pm PST
This October, SWE Golden Gate Section collaborated with UC Berkeley’s SWE section to host a virtual professional panel with panelists from SWE, SHPE, and NSBE. This interactive Q&A panel featured professionals who worked at large companies like Microsoft, Medtronic, and Intel! Each shared their unique perspectives on what it's like to work in their field, how they landed their jobs, their networking tips, and how they manage to stay involved in engineering organizations. Over 30 students from all over northern california joined in to meet all the panelists. After a Q&A session filled with students’ burning questions, the students broke off into breakout rooms, allowing the students to network with the panelists in smaller groups. The one upside of a virtual world is the opportunity to collaborate with people from all over the country! We hope to make this outreach event a regular one in the future!
Format
- Introductions (~10 mins)
- Pre-planned questions (~25 mins)
- General Q&A (~10 mins)
- Breakout rooms (~15-25 mins)
